Giving to the gospel.
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9)
We count any resources or income we have as a church as pure grace from the Lord. Everything we have is a gift from the Lord. Scripture says that we “know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,” and this knowing refers not to an academic knowledge but a passionate, relational and transforming love for Christ which flows from understanding who Jesus is and what he has done for us on the cross. “…though [Jesus] was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”
Giving cheerfully.
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
Jesus’ death on the cross represents the most generous gift ever given—the King of Glory gave up everything in order to reconcile us to God. Giving cheerfully, sacrificially, and consistently is a part of our worship and thankfulness for what God has given us in Christ. When we are generous with others, we remind one another of the great generosity of our good God.
No one can tell you how much to give but instead “each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” If you are part of our family, start giving today no matter how small or large your gift is, so that together we can see God’s kingdom grow.
Giving to the gospel is an act that comes from our identity: a gospel family rejoicing together as servants of Christ on mission.
